I know this isn't the right place to post this (good luck to me in finding THAT place),but perhaps some of you who see this will be good enough to PASS THIS ON. The #1 problem Google customers are experiencing right now is BATTERY LIFE on the Android phone. This needs to be put ON TOP of the developer list of items to fix. There are 10,000,000 "how to" guides on the net for extending battery life of the phones. I say that is horseshit. The batteries are borderline defective. Thank you for listening, and I hope someone hears.
This isn't very useful if it is only applied to Google's own 'rebroadcasting' CDN ("PageSpeed Service").
Earlier PageSpeed advances were delivered through multiple means such as the Apache module and the Firebug tool.
A better option would be to adjust browsers and servers to allow for variable caching headers against individual files, rather than simply by file type or globally per page. As a developer it is relatively easy to add cache rules in a htaccess file on a per-filetype basis. However this is not granular enough. Sometimes just one gif or jpg on a page - such as a thumbnail for an event listing - cannot be cached whereas all theme images of the same filetype should be cached. Unless I am missing something, this should be trivial to achieve as a web developer but it is not.
Meh. If and only if they bring back the "Responses" will I spend much time at Powerline.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Google comes up with ground breaking technologies, way wayy ahead of its competitors.
ReplyDeleteAs with the comment above, I bet this is cause of the Responses problem....java script deferral going indefinite (in Chrome under Snow Leopard).
ReplyDeleteWhen I wrote to Powerline about this I got no Response.

ReplyDeleteBrilliant stuff.
ReplyDeleteI think Cloudflare already does way more than this with its Railgun service:
